Goodbye Swarthmore, hello world. I'm out of the institution and need work to earn money to pay off loans. :-( I am at a loss on what to really do with my life, although I think I am getting a direction. I also hate the "new" Blogger. It sucks. I hate the new comments, Blogger bar, and dashboard. Google made Blogger suck. I hate you now Google. You truly are evil.
Are you as intrigued and fascinated by the killer tsunamis in Southeast Asia as I am? It's kind of mind boggling how many people are dead. Entire villages washed away. So do most of these peple drown? I'm guessing that's how they die. Not sure. It's annoying to watch CNN replay the same 10 second footage over and over again. It reminds me of the 9-11 attacks of the planes flying into the World Trade centers. Can't blame this one on the terrorists. Imagine tidal waves as a terrorist weapon. Wow. My mom said the wave was a sign of the Apocalspse. I don't understand if it took 6 hours to reach Somalia, why didn't someoen in say Thailand phone them? You would have thought that someone would have called the government in the other countries. The failure of an alert system is sad, but you still think that some people could have been warned. I was looking at pictures of the aftermath and was amazed by all the dead fish. You wouldn't think that they would die, but apparently the impact of the water is crazy strong.
So who profits from this diasaster? The media. Non-stop coverage. Also there are some wonderful photographs coming from this event. Apparently the best pictures are of those of people in a state of distress or intense emotion. It's kind of startling. Still hard to fathom entire villages being destroyed. Whole towns. Thosands of people. Wow. Just wow.
Merry Christmas. Commercialism at its height. Damn Walmart for trying to take over Jesus's birthday. Anyway, hope all is well for those I care for. Although it seems like the list is getting shorter... Thank you Lan for the jewerly box and earrings. I wore them tonight :-) Hey, it snowed pathetic snowflakes today. Nothing stuck, but I guess it's the thought that counts.
I got my headphones on Thursday, a day late (bastards), and I'm breaking them in right now. So far they sound pretty good, the detail is amazing and the bass is not boomy, but correct. I think it will sound better tomorrow, when they're fully broken in. I can't wait. I love them, but I can't seem to get the fit on my left ear to be perfect yet. ::sigh:: With practice I hope I can get them to fit properly, else my headphones are like a pretty girl with short hair. I love you etymotic! At least the shopping hell is over for now. Now it's time for Valentine's Day. Fun. Fun.
I added a new link to Something Positive because it's a great web comic that I read everyday. nothing really new to report other than I have 3 episodes left for season 3 24. I won't rant about it because I don't want to give anything away, but wow. I'll be 23 in 4 days. Gosh I'm getting old. Well, I have more apps to do and I should do my laundry. I'm also thinking about getting these headphones. they're expensive, but worth it and on sale (Over$100 off)! But, if I get that then I will want a new mp3 player. I will probably want a hard drive one or flash, I'm not sure yet. I might get an Ipod, but iriver has some nice products too. My Mp3-Cd Player could be updated too, but it still works well, just needs new batteries. So should I get a hard drive based player like an ipod or a flash based player that is smaller and more portable. So small that I can wear it as a necklace? I don't know either, but those head phones are mighty sweet and I think they might be my Christmas gift to myself....
I love the Ellen show and had to gush about it. She has the best monologue out there and unlike everyone else doing talk shows, her guests seem to really enjoy being there. There's not weird tension or ass-holish host being a smartalec, but she really seems to get along with her huests. She also gives out kick ass prizes for free and without the Oprah-esque snobbery. Today she gave away a diamond necklace and Kate Spade purse, which retailed for a grand total of $1,000. Wow. Ellen is funny, smart, and a good dancer. It's a great show and I think she's really found her niche. I like how she's not always asserting her sexual preferences, but instead focuses on making ths how as good as possible. I like how she is dedicated to causes and helps others by food drives, toy drives, etc. I don't get a big sense of falscity from her and that's good. I hate fake people, but she seems to be genuienly pleasant. I like her neurotic energy and playfulness with her audience. It is a bitch and a half to find her website, but I blame google's poor search engine. Let's face it, Google hit it's prime 3 years ago. It's all been downhill since then. You have to agree that it's earch capability sucks now. I should switch to another search engine, but which one? They all suck. Anyway, it's King of the Hill time. Yee-Haw!
Umm... Is it just me or your wheels falling off your truck seem to be a dangerous defect? I saw this article and couldn't help wondering how unconcerned companies are about public safety. I guess it's understandable when you see it from the angle of profitsat all costs, but it still gets under my skin. ::insert rant here::
Anyway, I should give ths dog a bath and get some yarn. Besides, it's a beautiful day outside. 70 degrees, sunny, and it's December. Who said global warming wasn't a good thing? ;-)
Damn idiot Blogger. I couldn't post on my blog. Asses. So it's 12.56 am on December 7, 2004. Hey, it's Pearl Harbor day. If we were at Ed White we'd be watching the same Pearl Harbor documentary and filling in the same worksheet. I think I only remembered to bring the previous worksheet once so I could sleep through the movie. Actually I never slept in class until college...or skip class until college... College is a bad influence. On second thought, we probably thought about bringing it 8th grade year after establishing a pattern from 6-7th grades, but forgot. How do you forget Pearl Harbor day? It's the same day every year like Christmas. Maybe if the Japanese had given us presents instead of bombs we might remember it better. Well, they did give us their airplanes...pilots included. ;-)
Anyway, since Google took over Blogger, the service for Blogger has been way down. It always fucks up my post, loses it, or doesn't let me into my account. Also the new features blow ass. If Enetation gets bought out by Google, my comments are doomed :-(
On to the meat...
Gays in the military. Who cares if they're gay, if they want to fight, let them. I was reading about how they don't ask don't tell policy was being challenged. It's a dumb policy, the military should drop it and let anyone in. Hell, even foreigners, we have a foreign governor in California. I don't think a homosexual will threaten the integrity of the military. I'm thinking you don't have to be straight to beat the shit out of a tied up prisoner on tape.
Let's rationalize the whole gays in the military. With more homosexuals we would have a bigger Navy. Homosexuals are a neat and clean race, and always have been since they sailed from France oh so long ago. Neat and clean like the Army. Also they wouldn't mind big burley men yelling at them and calling them pansies. I'm sure with more homosexuals in the military the food quality would be improved and uniform fashions would be stylish as well as killerific. On the down side, Pink Paisley is not a good form of camouflage. Shiny boots good, mud bad. Duck and cover maneuvers would be the favorite drill, but marching in formation would make us the laughing stock of the world armies, except of course the French. French Army is a contradiction of terms. Anyway, I see no disadvantages in letting "them" into the armed forces, better then than me. You get them boys/girls/etc.
Speaking of unfair... The Army is keeping soldiers on duty past their agreed duty tours. That is wrong. If you agree on a certain time and them change the rules, it should be illegal. It's a breach of contract. Some 7,000 men and women should have gone home alive to their loved ones, but the Army won't let them, threatening them. So essentially they're forced to fight. That is wrong and 8 soldiers are suing the Army to get out. They probably won't win, but it's a strong sign of how disgruntled some soldiers are about the war or rather occupation of Iraq. the Army's defense of keeping these soldiers past their enlistment duty is that they want to keep together companies, such that they are not split up and old troops are mixed with inexperienced troops. It's a good idea for the whole, but still they should give those with their time up an option to fight or stay. If they stay there should be a bonus, that way there is just compensation for their risk. I can see both sides, but I don't agree with keeping soldiers against their will. I also don't believe in occupation of countries.
::sigh:: I'm becoming more conservative. I hate change. I dislike all the new building and housing developments in San Antonio. I don't like the destruction of nature. I remember when IH-35 was a 2 lane highway from San Antonio to Austin, and all you could see was fields and cows. Now, it's hard to tell where San Antonio ends and Austin begins because of all the development. It's like attack of suburbia all the way between SA and Austin. I miss open space. I also don't like the massive developments around Loop 1604. I applaud Boerne's effort to keep out Walmart. The Evil Empire will probably spread there anyway, but then again that tank did run over that guy in Tinenaman Square. I have a feeling that I'm going to be grumbling about change for the rest of my life.
On a happier note, congrats to Ricky for graduating (Pending passing of his exams). Way to go babe! Good luck, you'll need it. I've also picked up golf. I'm not a bad putter and I'm working on my swing. Man, and I always bitched about golf. In case I can't post in time, Happy Birthday 23rd Lan on December 9th! You're getting old, but so am I. I asked my mom if I had wrinkled under my eyes and she told me to shut up and yelled at me.
Speaking of my mom, I have to get up early tomorrow to apply for a job. :-| I wonder when I will hear from the civil service jobs I applied to. I applied to like 20 jobs so far and it will probably be February before I hear back. :-(
I'll update again. I promise Lan. Since this one was a long one, it might be a several days, but watch out for an update.
P.S. Mr. Led moved to Hartford, CT with Dale. He teaches in West Hartford and Dale is again superintendent for Catholic schools in Hartford, CT. Congrats on the new jobs fellas! I do wonder if Tom wanted to teach Precal and Algebra 2? Also who got the job there first? My money's on Dale.
P.P.S. I didn't have to get up early. I went to bed at 6am because I was up all night looking at jobs online. I figure by January I will have applied for at least 45 jobs, and will probbaly never hear back from any of them :-(
